Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Gosh it's hard to believe that Christmas and New Year's Eve have been and gone. It all sped by so quickly.

We're just back from a lovely New Year's Eve celebration with our dear friends P & A down in Poole. We had a really chilled time with good food and best friends. I can think of no better way to welcome in a new year.

It was blustery, bracing weather. We had long beach walks on which we were buffeted by the elements, and from which we returned with soggy children and a sandy Wonderdog.

And then yesterday, on New Year's Day, we went to the Poole Harbour Bath Race, which must be an event without equal. The competitors sailed bath tubs in a race across Poole Harbour. They brought eggs and flour bombs with which they pelted the competition and the spectators, and the spectating public reciprocated in kind: many families were seen clutching mulitpacks of eggs for defensive purposes.

I think the bouncy castle with jumping Santas was the winner, but, in all the chaos of not being able to see over the heads of the people in front, I really couldn't swear to it. Somewhere under that great fortification there's a bath tub housing the small generator that kept the whole thing inflated. Apparently that was enough to make the ensemble qualify as a bath tub for the purposes of the race.

We saw the Lilliput being launched at the quay by the Old Lifeboat House.

It was a seaworthy craft comprising several bath tubs, and I am happy to report that it survived the race.  Luckily there were lots of lifeboats on hand to save those who didn't fare so well.

All the best for a very happy, healthy & creative 2018,

Bonny x

  1. Happy New Year, Bonny! Your New Year celebrations sound like a lot of fun. I haven’t been to Poole in years, but remember it being a beautiful place and the bath race must have been quite a spectacle. Sending best wishes for 2018. Marie x
