January ... bleugh!

At around about this time of year, every year without fail, I pause and think that I'd really like to do a re-wind, and go all the way back to the beginning of December again. You see the thing is I really enjoy Christmas with all the excitement, the getting together with family and friends, the parties, the fairy lights, the simple pleasure of time spent in front of the fire, happy and cosy, with loved ones. And so it follows that I'm always pretty reluctant to let the good times go, and get back to business as usual.

Bleugh! Business as usual in the coldest, greyest, gloomiest month of the year has n-o-t-h-i-n-g to recommend it in my book. Back to school, back to work, back to my tax return, which I've studiously ignored all through the holidays, and will inevitably struggle to file at the very last second of the very last minute of the very last day of January.

All things told January is a month that I could happily hibernate through. Forget about all those new year resolutions, and just wake me up for the daffodils!

We're back in London, Emi's back at school and it's raining outside. I found this rather miserable looking plant growing on a wind-swept, fog-bound moorland, and, at the risk of sounding like a drama queen, it's a perfect metaphor for how I feel about January.

Bleugh!

All the best for now,

Bonny x

  1. I am ready for sunshine, sitting on the porch to read, or to have my morning cup of coffee...so I am sort of with on the blues part but for different reasons.
